Every phone in this table is unlocked and sold without a contract.
This phone comparison lines up the unlocked Android phones sold new on Amazon.com, US versions only. Compare phones from Samsung, Google, Motorola, OnePlus, Nothing, TCL and others by chip, RAM, camera sensor, battery and, above all, years of promised updates. As a smartphone comparison chart it also checks each phone against the three US networks, the question a spec sheet never answers before you pick the best phone for your carrier.

Flagship Android phones
Flagships are where Samsung, Google and the foldables live: the fastest chips, telephoto lenses, the brightest screens and, from Samsung and Google, seven years of updates. They are the most expensive phones in the table, but also the ones that stay supported longest.
- Galaxy S Ultra and Pixel Pro carry the largest main sensors and the longest optical zoom.
- Foldables trade battery and weight for the bigger inner screen.

Mid-range under $500
Under $500 is where the update policy matters most: a Galaxy A or a Pixel a-series gets six or seven years, while several rivals at the same price promise two or three. The camera sensor is the other big difference here, so check Main sensor size before megapixels.
- A 120 Hz screen, 8 GB of RAM and 5G on all three networks are now normal at this price.
- Wireless charging and a telephoto lens are still the exception.
$250 to $500$250-500, 4+ years of updatesUnder $500, all three carriers
Budget phones under $250
Budget phones under $250 cover the basics with big batteries and large screens, and some keep a microSD slot. The trade-offs are slower chips, smaller camera sensors, and short or unpublished update promises, so the cost per supported year can be higher than it looks.
- Check that a budget phone has 5G and VoLTE on your carrier: some 4G-only models are only partly compatible.
- Samsung's A16 and A17 stand out for six years of updates at this price.
Under $250Under $250 with microSDUnder $250, 4+ years of updates
Update policy is the real lifespan
Samsung and Google promise seven years of OS and security updates. Several competitors promise two or three, and some publish nothing. A $400 phone with seven years costs less per year than a $700 phone with two, and no spec sheet frames it that way. When security updates stop, banking apps and eventually carriers stop trusting the phone.

The same platform question decides the watch on your wrist: an Apple Watch does not pair with Android at all, and a Galaxy Watch only gets every health feature on a Galaxy phone. The smartwatch comparison shows what each watch keeps or loses on your phone.

Check the US bands before you buy unlocked
This is the column that prevents the most common return. Unlocked phones sold on Amazon sometimes lack the 5G bands Verizon and T-Mobile use, or lack VoLTE certification, and the listing never says so. Every phone in this table is the US version, and each row is rated for the three US networks: Yes, Partial when it connects but misses a key band or certification, or No.

- Verizon and AT&T rely on the n77 C-band for fast 5G, and both block calling on phones they have not certified for VoLTE.
- T-Mobile runs most of its 5G on n41 and n71.
- International versions are left out of the table because they often miss these bands.

Camera megapixels against sensor size
Megapixels say how finely the picture is divided, not how much light reaches it. The size of the main sensor decides low-light quality and natural background blur, and two 50 MP phones can have sensors of very different sizes. The table ranks the phones on sale by sensor size, with the light-gathering area against the largest one.

Optical zoom is the other real camera difference: a telephoto lens keeps detail at 3x or 5x where a digital crop falls apart.
